NOVI Energy Dedicates Fuel Tipper at Halifax County Biomass Project in South Boston, Virginia

NOVI, Michigan, March 12, 2013 – NOVI Energy joined with officials from Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC),  Virginia governmental leaders from Halifax County and a number of fuel suppliers to the Halifax County Biomass (HCB) Plant in celebrating initial operation of HCB’s fuel receiving equipment.  The CEOs of NOVEC and NOVI activated the plant’s “Fuel Tippers,” upending two large wood transport trucks secured on the tippers to empty out their wood contents into the HCB facility’s fuel storage area below the tippers.

“Halifax County Biomass is proceeding toward completion of construction and startup testing in the third quarter of 2013,” said NOVI President Anand Gangadharan.  “We’re pleased to join with members of the Halifax County Biomass team in celebrating this milestone on the way toward achieving commercial operation of HCB later this year.”

HCB is a 49.9 megawatt “green” biomass-fueled power plant being built on a 104-acre site in the Halifax County Industrial Park in South Boston, Va.  NOVI Energy is the project developer and is overseeing design and construction work under contract to NOVEC.  NOVI Energy initiated the project when it conducted a feasibility study demonstrating the project’s viability for the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority.
