Why SMRs and ARs?
Nuclear energy is a proven, safe, and reliable power generation choice when examining the entire US fleet of power generation technologies. They can be deployed as:
- Ultra-safe (passively safe requiring no operator action or external power source to keep the plant and surrounding communities safe for extended periods of time)
- Large (using one or more modules per plant and aggregated to provide the desired level of electric capacity and energy)
- Carbon-free (nuclear fission does not produce carbon dioxide as an emission product, and is seen as an environmentally friendly choice)
- Baseload power choice (able to run 24x7x365)
- Providing synchronous generation (alternating current that the grid is accustomed to versus direct current from some of the newer technologies)
